Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology has not altered the human conception of virginity. Even today, when discussing virginity, it is predominantly associated with the female body. Historical insights reveal that throughout time, women have been under pressure to maintain their virginity until marriage, particularly in relation to their physicality. The definition of virginity varies across different regions, contributing to the evolving understanding of the concept in modern times. This article aims to explore the contemporary understanding of virginity. The methodology employed involves analysing books on sexuality, specifically focusing on virginity, authored by various individuals. Through this analysis, it becomes apparent that the definition of virginity has shifted and is no longer solely centred on women. It emphasizes the necessity of educating children about sexuality in today's society. The abundance of easily accessible information presents both opportunities and risks for children, highlighting the crucial role of parents in sexual education. Sex education plays a vital role in helping children comprehend their bodies and emotions, particularly in understanding their affections towards others. Reflecting on the history of sexuality, it becomes evident that virginity is merely a societal construct, devoid of inherent biological significance. Keywords: virginity; women; sex education; history of virginity.
